4th Annual Twentynine Palms Book Festival: A Literary Weekend Guide to Where to Stay

Some festivals fill a conference room. This one fills a town.
From November 13 through 15, 2026, the Twentynine Palms Book Festival returns for its 4th year, and by now it has outgrown any single stage. More than 100 visiting and local authors are expected, spread across more than 20 panel discussions, VIP talks, workshops, and offsite literary events. The subjects range as widely as the authors themselves: memoir, crime fiction, Indigenous storytelling, poetry, veterans' voices, children's literature, the American West, conservation, history, music, and creative careers.
If you've ever wanted a reason to spend a long weekend somewhere quiet with a stack of books and good conversation, this is it.
What's on the Program
The festival is built around the Twentynine Palms Community Center, also known locally as Freedom Plaza, in the heart of downtown Twentynine Palms. From there, the weekend branches out: panels and VIP talks inside, workshops for writers working on their own craft, and offsite literary events scattered around town.
Here's the honest part. The festival's organizers haven't published a day-by-day schedule yet — which panel happens when, or where each offsite event lands. We're not going to guess at times we can't confirm. Check the official festival listing closer to the date, and build your schedule once the real one is live.
Three Days of Books, One Place to Come Back To
A festival like this is a lot of moving between rooms, swapping conversations, carrying a growing stack of books back to wherever you're staying. After a full day of panels, most people want somewhere quiet to sit with what they just heard — to read a chapter, scribble a note, or just stop talking for a while.
Wanderlust Joshua Tree sits on five private acres in Wonder Valley, just outside Twentynine Palms. You get wide-open desert views and no shared walls or common areas — no thin hotel wall between you and whoever is in the next room. Inside, there's room for the whole group: three bedrooms, six beds, two bathrooms. Outside, a fire pit holds the end of the night, which is exactly the kind of quiet a weekend like this calls for — somewhere to talk through what you heard on a panel, or say nothing at all.
We haven't measured the drive between the property and the Community Center, and we won't estimate it. If timing between sessions matters to your plans, map the drive yourself before you book.
