November is a dependable month to plan a Joshua Tree trip around things to do outdoors with kids. This November carries a specific reason to time a visit around it: Joshua Tree National Park Association (JTNPA), the park's official nonprofit partner since 1962, has scheduled three free, ranger-led field programs and family experiences across three dates this month. Below is what's confirmed about each one, straight from JTNPA's own event listings, plus where to stay if you're building a family weekend around the schedule.

A note before the list: Wanderlust does not organize, sponsor, or host any of the programs below. These are JTNPA/National Park Service-affiliated events, run independently of this property. We're passing along the public schedule because it's useful for anyone planning a November visit — not because we have any role in running it.

November 1, 2026

Talus Caves in Joshua Tree Field Experience for Families

A family-oriented field program focused on the park's talus caves — the boulder-stacked rock formations and cave-like gaps found throughout Joshua Tree's granite landscape.

Cyanotype Sunprinting Workshop

A hands-on workshop in cyanotype sunprinting, a sun-exposure photographic printing process, held the same day as the Talus Caves program.

November 7, 2026

Geology of Amboy Crater Field Experience

A field program covering the geology of Amboy Crater, the volcanic cinder cone located east of Joshua Tree in the Mojave Desert.

Desert Discovery Day: A Leave No Trace Spotlight

A desert-focused discovery program centered on Leave No Trace principles — the set of outdoor ethics guidelines for minimizing impact on public land.

November 14, 2026

Paleontology of Joshua Tree Field Experience

A field program on the paleontology of the Joshua Tree area, looking at the region's fossil record.

That's the full confirmed schedule for this month: five programs across three dates. JTNPA's listings do not specify exact meeting times, exact meeting locations, group size, or registration demand for any of these programs beyond the names and dates above, so we're not guessing at those details here. Before you plan around any of them, go to JTNPA's own event pages for registration, start times, and exact meeting points: joshuatree.org/featured-events. You can also read more about JTNPA as the park's official nonprofit partner at joshuatree.org/organizer/jtnpa/.

Where to stay for a November field-trip weekend

If you're coming in from out of town for one of these programs — or just want a home base for a few days of November hiking, stargazing, and ranger-led learning — Wanderlust sits on five private acres with wide-open desert views. There are no shared walls or common areas, so a family coming back from a morning in a talus cave or an afternoon at a fossil site has the run of the place to themselves. Three bedrooms and six beds give everyone room to spread out after a full day outdoors.
